Formentor (Cape) is a narrow peninsula (about 12 km in length) in the far north of Majorca in the municipality of Pollensa. A road leading to the lighthouse at Cap de Formentor passes through it. It is one of the most popular and emblematic places on the island, thanks to the beauty of its landscape which includes both mountain and sea views.
Formentor Cape has some spectacular viewpoints. The Mal Pas viewpoint is the best known, and is also referred to as the Mirador d'es Colomer. The panoramic view from Cape Majorca takes in Menorca in the east, Cala Fiquera in the west, and Alcudia in the south. The view of the cliffs can cause even the bravest visitors to feel weak in the knees, with the sea roaring 300 meters below and the wind fiercely whipping at the cliff tops.
A winding road climbs from the nearby town of Puerto de Pollensa, to the stunning viewpoints at Creueta and Colomer on the clifftops. There is also a watchtower known as d'Albercutx Talaia at Formentor which dates back to the XVI century and was part of Majorca's defence system. Situated 390 meters above sea level, the tower also has a stunning viewpoint from which visitors can enjoy views of the bays of Pollen├ža and Alcudia.
A brief history of Formentor

Famous faces such as Winston Churchill, Edward Windsor, the Prince of Wales, Niceto Alcalá Zamora, the Duke of Alba and Kapurtala Marahja were among the first guests. It remains an exclusive hotel and still hosts a number of important international events and prize ceremonies.
